IBSAL

What is IBSAL?

The Institute for Biomedical Research of Salamanca (IBSAL) was founded on the 21st of March 2011, through a partnership agreement between the Regional Ministry of Health of Castilla y León and the University of Salamanca. The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) joined this partnership on the 10th of February 2012.

IBSAL was established to create an environment for biomedical research, targeting the clinical, epidemiological and health service themes. The institute integrates and coordinates the research carried out at the University Hospital of Salamanca, Primary Health Care and the biomedical departments of the University of Salamanca, including the Institute of Neuroscience of Castilla y León and the Institute of Cancer Molecular and Cellular Biology.

IBSAL mission

Drive translational research by fostering the synergy between clinical and basic groups, working on the models of existing translational groups and optimizing resources through common services and a more efficient management.

IBSAL vision

To become a benchmark in biomedical research in Castilla y León and the north-east of Portugal, but also an international reference in cancer, neuroscience and cardiovascular research, and progressively in other potential themes.

Help towards the consolidation of the Biomedical Campus of Salamanca and its business network.

Act as a driving force in transmitting knowledge and innovation in biomedical research, enabling the translation of scientific and technological research outcomes to the healthcare process.

El IBSAL es uno de los 29 Institutos de Investigación Biomédica acreditados por el Instituto de Salud Carlos III y el único de estas características en Castilla y León.
